Exercise and the power of prevention
No one wants an injury, be it an unexpected accident or just muscles that have tightened up over time. We all want to be able to move freely without discomfort.
The main reason for muscles and joints tightening up is lack of good blood circulation. The effected area does not receive sufficient nourishment to maintain healthy muscle tissue and joint mobility and so the area feels uneasy.
Another reason is that when the blood circulation is poor, so is the lymphatic circulation, as they function synergistically with one another. The lymphatic circulation is responsible for maintaining fluid balance, and removal of unwanted bacteria and acids that can lead to arthritic-type symptoms. A well-functioning lymphatic system will thus help to maintain good muscle and joint function.
The best way to maintain good blood circulation is through keeping the body active and moving. Whole-body exercises such as; resistance training, stretching and movement that stimulates the heart function are necessary.
If you find it difficult to exercise by yourself, then socially-interactive exercises will motivate you more, as you will feel compelled to turn up and start your session. This can include group classes at a gym, hiking and various other sporting activities.
Tai Chi is a mindful activity which, improves balance, posture, co-ordination, breathing and flexibility. The poised nature of the exercises promotes calmness and is a good way to manage stress and anxiety. It’s an overall tonic for promoting good health and a sense of well-being.
